REBUILDING

My friend Joseph in Buffalo, New York, called me not too long ago. He said, "I just wanted to tell you how much your friendship has meant to me over the years." He went on to share that since the [September 11th] hijacking, he has been filled with an overwhelming desire to make sure those people who make his life joyous know it.

And that is what we need to do right now. Like those helping hands closer to the disaster sites, we must support each other. Share our strengths. Acknowledge our bonds with one another. Did you notice that it was not long after the Twin Towers in New York collapsed before we heard people talking about rebuilding? Yet, I have been hearing some others who are not ready to do just that. We seem to feel guilty if we go buy something to try to cheer ourselves up - to get on with our lives as best we can. That's Ok. It is real. It shows empathy with those who are closer to the tragedies, those that won't be able to move on so soon. But our emotions must not freeze our actions. Our mourning will go on for years; HOWEVER, we cannot afford to be inactive for that long. Give that man who owns the cleaning business SOMETHING TO DO. Let us immerse ourselves in our work. Let's rebuild. That is how we can help - one day at a time.

Also, get your kids involved. One way is to let them roll their own candles using sheets of pure honeycomb beeswax and 100% cotton wick. No melting or pouring involved! Kids (of all ages) have enjoyed this craft and later, you can hold a candlelight vigil or simply enjoy a nice family dinner and share in the warmth of our natural resources and creative hands. For more information (including FREE instructions and a SALE that ends Oct. 14th), please visit Gary and Laurie at www.luminacandles.com or call them at: 830-627-8827
