FROM PAPER TO BRONZE

My father called yesterday afternoon and said, "I just wanted to let you know that I am OK." He sounded tired. Having visited with him recently, I thought I was "up" on all the family news. I responded, "That's nice, Dad. Why wouldn't you be OK?"

And he realized that in my typical isolation, I did not know about the American Airline plane crash in Queens, New York. You see, my father is a pilot for American. He filled me in on what details he had (which were few) and then thought he should contact my little brother Michael in Hawaii, who was probably just waking up.

The world seems so strange right now. As I think about all of the dying that has been going on this year (for whatever reason), I cannot help but feel even more motivated to do something worthwhile every day and to work faster, if I can, on my creations. I was hoping that by mid-November, I would be able to introduce my newest bronze, but alas, I am still working on it. However, I wanted to touch base with you again since so many have written since my last newsletter to express kind thoughts and encouragement.

I also need your help. Next summer, I am having a 2-person show (with artist Marian Waldrip) titled, "From Paper to Bronze: Sculptors Who Draw". Marian and I will need some sponsors to pull off the kind of educational exhibit that we envision. While I do not expect any of you to be a sponsor, I would like your opinions about our exhibit ideas. I have posted an online survey and need people to fill it out. These responses will be used to entice corporations, foundations, and area businesses to help us put on this show.
If you would like more information about this exhibit and if you would be so kind as to send me your thoughts, please visit:

Thank you so much. I realize your time is valuable and appreciate your opinions as well.

MOTIVATION AND CREATIVITY

Knowing that someone, something, is with you, in spirit or in reality, motivates. Perhaps it's the implication of a higher purpose, the connectedness of life, or simply the energy of the universal "thank you."

The above was quoted from artist Robert Genn in his inspirational e-letter that I received today. This letter is wonderful for anyone interested in how the creative mind works as well as giving some insight into life as an artist. If you would like to preview and signup for his letter, please visit the artist resource page on my site:

Incidentally, the resource section of my Web site seems to be one of the most popular. You will find text and images showing how I create my works, as well as business tips of interest to artists. Due to what feels like an overwhelming number of e-mail requests sometimes, I have added 2 more pages to this section:

INTRODUCING . . .

How many times have you wished you had bought that painting before someone else got it? Or wished you could afford a favorite piece of sculpture? In response to several requests for more art, I have been working in partnership with Cafepress to offer images of my artwork on smaller-priced items - and just in time for the holiday season! Cool coffee mugs can be filled with goodies for a fun and affordable gift. I can also personalize some items upon request, too. Check out the new store at:
www.borsheimarts.com/store.htm

Buy books, e-books, CDs, and DVDs, too, and support the arts!

The Thanksgiving holiday will be upon us soon and I hope that you will be able to spend the day with others - sharing and giving. I am grateful to you and for you. Thank you for making the world a smaller and friendlier place.

With kindest regards,
Kelly Borsheim
