A NEW BRONZE!

Hello! I hope you are looking forward to winter. I am so excited to share with you a recently completed sculpture. It is titled "Together and Alone" and although still in clay, it will be made into a limited edition bronze very soon. As a child, I had a difficult time understanding how 2 opposing ideas could actually coexist. Growing up, I came to understand that the world is full of grays (and rarely just black and white) and that life is a lot more complicated than I had ever imagined. It is a source of amazement to me that we do not go mad while living with these fairly common contradictions and I would like to explore these ideas visually.

To help me get the new edition started (mold making and bronze casting), I am offering a special introductory price on "Together and Alone" for a limited time.
This pre-casting price is $3,696.00 (a 12% discount!) and because of the holiday stress on almost everyone's budget, I am reducing the typical 50% deposit to only $1500.

To view the sculpture and get more details on this one-time offer, please visit: www.borsheimarts.com/sculpture/2001/alone.htm

Offer expires on January 20, 2002.

WHY THE FIGURE?

Within the last 2 months I have heard 3 artists (one a musician) make a comment that each felt that if one could not be Michelangelo, one should not even attempt to sculpt the figure. One man went so far as to say that Michelangelo had said everything that needed to be said with the human form.

Frankly, this disturbs me because I ENJOY sculpting and painting the figure. I love the nuance (and the not-so-subtle meanings) expressed by the motions or positions of our bodies. Yet, I cannot help but wonder why I am hearing this message now. For me, a statement often leads to a question. Naturally the great master has influenced my work and my thinking, but if I were able to talk to him, would HE agree that he had said all he intended to say? That he was, in essence, done?

If you would like to share with me your thoughts on this subject, please do so.

FROM PAPER TO BRONZE:

Just a reminder that I have posted a survey on my Web site to help determine what you would like to see in an art exhibit about bronze sculpture. I realize your time is valuable and that it is a busy season for everyone, but I would like to shape this upcoming exhibit to be as interesting and useful as possible. If you would be so kind as to send me your thoughts, please visit:

Thank you so much.

A HOLIDAY MESSAGE

To give pleasure to a single heart by a single act is better than a thousand heads bowing in prayer. (Mahatma Gandhi)
