NEW STONE WORK!

It is clear now that Spring is about to make her arrival - the birds are more active and my toes are not quite as cold. Although I have been concentrating on finishing bronze sculptures for my exhibit in July, I cannot help but sneak outside for the some of the warmer hours in the day and do some stone carving. The following is a link that will take you to see what happens when sculptors play. I hope you enjoy the piece:

UPCOMING EXHIBITS:

Mark your calendars for this Saturday night - it is the annual Salinas Arts Gala at the Bastrop Opera House in Bastrop, Texas. Gremillion & Co. Fine Art Gallery of Austin juried this year's exhibit and 4 of my artworks were chosen (1 painting and 3 sculptures). The Gala raises funds for local high school art scholarships.
FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY:
March 2, 2002, 7-10 p.m. (Evening attire)
Bastrop Opera House, 711 Spring Street, (downtown), Bastrop, Texas

Then: Thursday, March 7th is the opening reception for the show "The Austin Art Scene III" which is held March 5-23, 2002, during the time of the well known SXSW Music and Film Festival in Austin. My half life-size bronze "Reginald" was chosen for this juried exhibit. You may view that artwork at:
www.borsheimarts.com/sculpture/2001/reginald.htm

And don't forget to make your travel plans to Summerville, South Carolina, in mid-May for the "Sculpture in the South" weekend.

NEW BRONZES:

The wax sculptures "9-1-1" and "Gregg" are now available in bronze. They are 2 of the works selected for the Salinas Arts Gala exhibit. Check them out at:

("Together and Alone" is scheduled to debut at "Sculpture in the South" show mentioned above.)

FEATURED ART:

My art is featured in the design of the Web site for the Austin Visual Arts Association (AVAA). Besides being selected as an AAVANTI artist again this year (also in 1997), my images appear as the backdrop for many of the pages on their site. AVAA is moving their offices at the time I write this, so if the site is not functional, please try again in a couple of days. AVAA site: www.txarts.net/avaa/

TEACHING:

Although my primary focus is to keep creating artwork, I have been getting requests to teach and have decided to try one class. If you would like to register for this 7-week course in Sculptural Anatomy, please contact the Austin Sculpture Center at 512-371-7606 or mail: 305 E. 45th St., Austin, TX 78751. My class is set for Tuesdays, 1-4 p.m. starting March 26th (no class on April 2nd).

Sculptural Anatomy (Price = $120, plus supplies)
Using plastelina with an armature, students will sculpt from a live model. Emphasis is on understanding anatomy and proportion, how to see and how to create what you see. While demonstrations and lectures are a part of the course outline, the majority of each class is spent sculpting. Students of all levels are welcome and individual attention will be given to each student on a daily basis. Call 512-371-7606 or click here for materials list. (materials not included in tuition)

Thank you for your time - and I hope you are able to make it to an art exhibit soon.

Peace,
Kelly Borsheim
