Hafiza Malik - an Italian Artist of the Landscape

[artist Hafiza Malik Florence Italy] by Kelly Borsheim

Many years ago, I met an Italian artist who has passion galore, but little formal training. She drew constantly as a child and even once met the famous Pietro Annigoni in Castagno di Andrea, a village in Tuscany. She was just a little girl, but she always remembered that he stopped by her table to compliment her drawing to her mother.

Hafiza Malik is an artist who understands that art and life are a process, in which we keep working, learning and growing. She admires the beauty of clouds, water and organically shaped objects. I have walked with her and watched her collect leaves, seeds, and random pieces of trees that have fallen to the ground or have been washed upon the seashore. She looks at the world through the eyes of someone who loves. Hafiza works with an open heart.

She is a sensitive soul with many stories to tell. She loves Nature, and has a special affinity towards trees. She prefers to draw from life (which is how I met her), befriending artists and people from all walks. Hafiza creates drawings, etchings, and paintings. She lives in Sesto Fiorentino, just outside of Florence, Italy. Her work is in private collections in Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Kelly Borsheim has worked as a full-time professional artist since January 2001. She is an American sculptor who loves to paint and draw, especially the human form. Michelangelo brought Kelly to Italy in 2004 and it was in the Renaissance City (Florence) that she became a madonnara (streetpainter). Here she began her exploration with the medium of pastels. Her current body of 2-dimensional work combines her classical training as a sculptor, as well as drawing in pencil and charcoal at the Angel Academy of Art in Florence, with her streetpainting: using bright colorful pastels with the subtleties one can express with charcoal.

Kelly currently splits her time between her studio in central Texas and in Florence, Italy. Borsheim art works are in private collections throughout the United States and in Australia, Canada, Italy, France, The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand. You may find her work online at www.BorsheimArts.com and read her travel and art blog at www.artbyborsheim.blogspot.com.
