Original Portrait Painting of Laura from Cameroon, Africa

I created an original portrait in acrylic of a girl named Laura who was visiting Austin, Texas, from Cameroon, Africa, 20 and 27 February 2004. (These dates are written on the top of the canvas, and are unseen when the painting is framed.) Laura had never modeled before, but I liked her strong face. She seemed rather patient with the process to some degree.

In 2005, I added oil colors to this painting. Originally, I was going to color all of my monochromatic paintings, but then I inevitably loved them just the way they are. However, Africa is a colorful place and its people tend to enjoy vibrant colors, so adding Naples Yellow and Cadmium Red seemed appropriate for this portrait of Laura from Cameroon. I hope she enjoyed her visit to Austin.
