The Dance

In 1993 I began to attend the many life drawing sessions held by artists around Austin, where artists share the expenses of hiring a model. In April of 1994, I changed from drawing in charcoal to actually painting on canvas during these life drawing sessions. (Herman, a cyclist, was my first model for paint.) I continued to sketch in charcoal for some time after that before I gave in totally to painting in oil. It may have been during this period that I was coming to understand I needed to push the medium around a little--starting my growth towards sculpture. I still enjoy the life drawing sessions and they still help me study anatomy and the individual.

Many of the 1998 paintings (this page, with a few 1996 and 1999 paintings) seem to reflect my love of triangles more than some of the paintings from other years. I also started to experiment a little more with color. I hope you enjoy my work. Thanks for visiting.
